I have loved art for as long as I can remember, and photography is the culmination of any artistic knowledge I’ve gathered along the way. I love to create in any way, shape or form. If I ever have some “free time”, you can likely find me fiddling with something creative, but lately each creative thing seems to have a common goal: my photography.
Although I was used to a creative approach, once I decided to focus on it I made the conscious decision to “box” my creativity, and focus on learning the very basics of what makes photography work. It took a while to allow myself to start truly creating with this new medium, but once I was confident in my self taught basics, I slowly started to branch out into more artistic work.
I find myself constantly revisiting those basics whenever I feel stuck, and I always enjoy learning new techniques and combining them with everything else I have learned along the way.
If you are unfamiliar with studio photography, I’d like to make a note and let you know that the vivid colors you see constantly used in my photography are not “photoshopped” in. I favor an accessory called Colored Gels which allow me to manipulate the color of the light I use when photographing subjects, so the colors you see are present in the raw, unedited format. That is not to say, of course, that I do not edit my photos. I have spent countless hours learning and refining editing techniques in order to take my photos to the highest quality level possible.
At times, I like to play every role in the process…
…and I also have the handiest little helper around!
